Amazon Product Image Size & Requirements (2026)

Quick answer

Amazon product images must be at least 500 pixels and no more than 10,000 pixels on the longest side, and Amazon recommends more than 1,000 pixels so shoppers can zoom. The main image needs a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255) with the product filling 85% of the image. JPEG is the preferred format.

Main image rules

  • Show the product accurately and realistically, with its real scale, quantity and color, in professional quality.
  • No placeholder images: the first image uploaded defines the product.
  • Show the whole product in the frame, with no part cut off.
  • Show the product only once (for example, not the front and the back in the same image), and only one unit plus the accessories included in the purchase.
  • No packaging, unless it is an important feature of the product (such as a gift box).
  • Only a limited number of product types may use a lifestyle (in-use) image as the main image.

Rules for all product images

  • Represent the product you sell and match the product title.
  • No customer reviews, star ratings, claims like "free shipping" or seller-specific information.
  • No price text (except on swatch images).
  • No Amazon logos or trademarks, or anything confusingly similar, and no Amazon badges such as Amazon's Choice or Best Seller.
  • Children's and babies' underwear, swimwear and similar close-fitting items must be photographed flat, without a model.

Other image types

  • Besides MAIN, Amazon uses variant codes for additional images: PT01–PT99 for other angles, the product in use or details; SWCH for color swatches; PS01–PS06 for safety and compliance information.
  • Some jurisdictions require disclosure when images contain photorealistic AI-generated people: add the IPTC metadata value contains-synthetic-performer before uploading.

Why images get rejected

  • Images that don't meet the technical requirements (such as under 500 px) can't be uploaded.
  • Images that break the product image requirements can be removed.
  • If no main image meets the requirements, Amazon may remove the listing from search results until a compliant main image is provided.
  • A newly selected image can take up to 24 hours to appear on the product page.

Amazon image FAQ

What size should Amazon product images be?

Amazon accepts images from 500 to 10,000 pixels on the longest side and recommends more than 1000 pixels, which enables zoom. SizeMyListing exports Amazon images at 2048 × 2048 pixels. Some categories have extra rules, so also check your category's style guide in Seller Central.

Does the Amazon main image need a white background?

Yes. The main image must be on a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255). That is why this tool always uses pure white for Amazon, even if you pick another background color for other marketplaces.

My product looks small in the frame. How do I fix it?

Amazon asks for the product to fill 85% of the main image. The default 5% margin leaves the product filling 90%; keep the margin at 7% or less. If the product still looks small, your photo has a lot of empty space around it: crop it closer before adding it. Avoid "Fill" mode for the main image, since Amazon doesn't allow any part of the product to be cut off.

Can I use this for Amazon secondary images?

Yes. Secondary images can show the product in use or from other angles. The tool will still size them and place them on white, which is always accepted.

Does Amazon accept PNG or WebP?

Amazon accepts JPEG, TIFF, PNG and non-animated GIF, and recommends JPEG. WebP is not on the list, so the Amazon folder always contains JPG files.

How should I name my Amazon image files?

Naming is optional when you add images to a listing one by one, so names like blue-leather-wallet-1.jpg are fine. Only Amazon's bulk image upload needs a strict pattern: product identifier, variant code and extension separated by dots, such as B000123456.MAIN.jpg or B000123456.PT01.jpg, with no spaces or dashes. For bulk uploads, rename the files from the ZIP to that pattern.
